OCEAN supports partnerships between researchers at the UCI School of Education and schools, organizations, and educators. Our goal is to create initiatives and partnerships that positively impact our local communities.
We do this work in a few ways.
Community Research Fellows Program
We invite students to join our Community Research Fellows program. Fellows attend a bi-weekly workshop series that provide training in conducting community-engaged, partnership research. Fellows also partner with a community organization or school to utilize their research training to help improve learning and education in our local communities. There is no cost or requirements for attending the workshops, they are open to all. Fellows receive formal recognition for completing the training series and a partnership project.
Research-Practice Partnerships
OCEAN helps to match faculty and student researchers with local schools, education non-profits, and civic institutions that are focused on creating equitable change and improvement in education for learners in Orange County and beyond. We support a focused set of OCEAN partners through funded projects and donor-supported initiatives.
Since 2018, OCEAN faculty, students, and community partners have created nearly 50 projects together, and secured nearly $14 million in external grants to support these community initiatives
